Sarah Bouhaddi (PSG): "I will not refuse the French national team"

Nearly three years after voluntarily stepping back from the French national team, goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi has stated on Monday, in an interview with France Bleu Paris, that she would not refuse a call-up to the French national team if she was selected.

With Corinne Diacre removed from the position of coach, the historic leaders of the French national team are beginning to hope again, four months before the World Cup (July 20 - August 20). Like Eugénie Le Sommer or Amandine Henry, who have not been called up for months, Sarah Bouhaddi (36 years old, 149 caps) has not given up on the French national team. Three years after her last appearance (on March 4, 2020 against Canada, 1-0), which was followed by her voluntary withdrawal from the French squad in June 2020, the PSG goalkeeper has expressed her ambitions to France Bleu Paris.

Unambiguously, the Parisian, who played for thirteen years at Lyon, says she is ready. "I am a competitor and a high-level athlete. I have always said that as long as I still play football, I will not refuse the French national team. I do not close the door. I left the national team for three years. We will see with the future coach if he wishes to discuss with me and have me in his team. But today, the most important thing is also to be performant at the club, to go after results. And then, we'll see what happens."

Sarah Bouhaddi is a highly respected goalkeeper in women's football, having won numerous titles and awards throughout her career. She has won 14 French championships with Olympique Lyonnais and seven UEFA Women's Champions League titles. In 2020, she joined Paris Saint-Germain, where she has continued to excel. Her potential return to the French national team could be a major boost for the squad ahead of the World Cup.
